Hi Lisa,

This article is not about 'democrats' and 'republicans' in an American political sense (I assume that's what you mean by 'this country'; if it's another country, please let me know) but about democracy as an organisational model and how it reflects a spiritual ideal. That's what a political system is at its most basic level - simply a way of organising society. You may be surprised to realise that 'Republicans' as a party are actually democratic and 'Democrats' republican as they support a republic rather than a monarchy. And both the Republicans and the Democrats in the USA (as is the same of political parties in other democratic countries around the world) fall short of the democratic ideal. And yet, so I argue, it's the best system we have in terms of the aspirations of our heart. By the way, I do have political views on which model of democracy I prefer (in a party-political sense) but you will notice that I didn't mention who I vote for. Why? Because first I believe in finding common ground between people and second because I can't stand this oppositional stance that Christians (particularly in America) seem to be allowing in the church. Thanks for stopping by,

Fiona

I believe democracy is the best for us now. We will be robbed for ever if we keep trusting in republicans. We better teach our family to believe in democrats or this country will never change, and will keep being republican.
